Senator Ricardo Monreal, a high-ranking Morena politician, was recently seen vacationing in Madrid with his wife. He insists the trip was:

  • Privately funded
  • In celebration of 40 years of marriage
  • During a legislative recess

But the optics matter.

Photos published in a national paper suggest luxury accommodations. Monreal denies this, stating he and his wife only had breakfast at a luxury hotel. Regardless, the backlash was swift.

“They know the government is rotten, but stay quiet for the miserable stipends they get.”
